Cord Blood Collection
Cord blood collection is a pain-less and non-invasive procedure performed about 5 to 15 minutes after the delivery of your baby. If you decide to bank your baby's cord blood, you will be sent a cord blood collection kit. This kit contains everything necessary for your doctor to procure the cord blood sample. Be sure not to forget this kit when you leave for the hospital or you will miss this once in a lifetime opportunity. After your baby has been delivered, your doctor will use a syringe to draw the cord blood from the umbilical cord and the placenta. In most cases, a sample size of a couple of ounces will result. Your kit will also include instructions for shipping the sample to the cord blood bank.
